eeeep. yes, i’m alive. i have missed two fashion fridays in a row and i feel like a butt. it’s getting to that point in the semester where all my professors are like “hehe, i’m the only one assigning work so i’ll assign all of it now!” but once i finish this oral presentation on tuesday, i should be back to my regular posting :D

Thanks so much to everyone who shared their thoughts on what Kurt means to them! I can’t tell you how much I loved reading then—they were all so beautiful and inspiring. There were so many, in fact, that I’m putting them under a “Read More” so that you don’t all have an insanely long post on your dashboards.

Once again, thanks for sharing your love of Kurt!

It was the first time I really heard my own thoughts and feelings reflected by another person. I always thought I was a bit alone in that respect, so I was very excited to see that there was at least one other person that thinks like me. As I read more books, more and more of what he had to say resonated with me. Therefore, one of my favorite quotes has to be from Timequake, “Still and all, why bother? Here’s my answer. Many people need desperately to receive this message: I feel and think much as you do, care about many of the things you care about, although most people do not care about them. You are not alone.” Reading that (and really any other Vonnegut quote/book) was like receiving a very important letter from a very important person whom I had never met and whose letter I never expected.”

Have you read Timequake? I always found it profoundly weird that Kilgore Trout died when he was 84 in that book. And so did Kurt. : (

5 years ago today, Mr. Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. passed away. Or “appeared to die”, as the Tralfamadorians would say. I think today is a wonderful day to remember what they taught Billy Pilgrim, which is that a person who is dead is still very much alive in the past. Kurt Vonnegut had 84 years’ worth of moments in his life, during which he gave us the lasting gift of his creativity. We have his writing, his speeches, and his art; we have his dry sense of humour, his unforgettable wisdom, and his fervent wish that we all become aware of what we need to do with our lives.

More than that, we each have our own special connection with Kurt. Whatever it is that drew you to him, that made you fall in love with him… Today is a day to be grateful for that. Flip through your favourite book and remind yourself of why Kurt is so special to you.

If you’d like, drop me a line here or in my ask box and tell me what you love about Kurt and why he means so much to you. I’ll compile them at the end of the day and post them (let me know if you’d rather it be kept private).

…So, this is embarrassingly late. But it’s still technically Friday, so it counts! I didn’t forget completely; I just had a crazy busy day. At any rate, let’s get down to brass tacks.

Suspenders.Holy shit, Kurt in suspenders. I didn’t know how much I needed that in my life until I saw this photo. He just looks good, and yet so casual. Not to mention, this is the same way he holds his cigarette in that photo of him that reminds me of my dad (the one in front of the house). I suppose that must have been a habit of his.

hahaha, it’s ok. my friend who took the picture couldn’t stop laughing. and neither could i. we finally calmed down and then i tried to move the bookmark ribbon in the book and we lost it again.

Because the books that I need for research are all on course reserve, which means you can’t check them out of the library. So I’ve had to take all my notes here instead of at home. Not to mention one of the books is HUGE:

That is me, a normal-sized person, sitting in a chair that is supposedly intended for normal-sized people but which was clearly built for Hagrid. And that is a book, supposedly intended to be read by normal-sized people but clearly designed for Hagrid’s full-giant mother.

I look like a hobbit.

I am dying to go home and eat something (it’s 8:30pm by the way). If I were a hobbit, I’d have missed at least three or four meals by now.
