kurt vonnegut - Breakfast of Champions (via mauriciohoyos)
One of my favorite quotes of all time came can be attributed to Mark Vonnegut, the son of famous author Kurt Vonnegut. Kurt was asking his son what he thought the meaning of life was, and Mark responded eloquently and brilliantly,
“Father, we are here to help each other get through this thing, whatever it is.”
This is honestly how I try to live my life.
Whether or not you agree with Mark, I think we can all come to a consensus that it couldn’t hurt to be more compassionate and understanding from time to time.
Just a thought.
“There was a message written in pencil on the tiles by the roller towel. This was it:
Trout plundered his pockets for a pen or pencil. He had an answer to the question. But he had nothing to write with, not even a burnt match. So he left the question unanswered, but here is what he would have written, if he had found anything to write with:
To be
the eyes
and ears
and conscience
of the Creator of the Universe,
you fool.”
Clearly, one of my professors is trying to tell me that I’m on Earth to read 100 pages a week. Good to know I can ignore that. Thanks, Mr. Vonnegut!
